Bagdad (CA)

This is such a strange pic. Apart of the railroad tracks, a lone tree is all that remains of the town of Bagdad that used to be located right in the middle of the Mojave desert before being totally abandoned and demolished. On this stretch of the road, you can still feel the sensation of being the last man on earth...

Route 66 is definitely full of surprise...

The tree itself was actually not located in the townsite. The tree is located where a service station used to sit along Route 66. The townsite itself predates the National Trails Road (predecessor to Route 66) and is north of the railroad tracks here.

This location, by the way, made a great location for my wedding in April, 2005!
